Students living on campus
April 30, 2020
  • As of 12.01am Monday, 16 March, all people who arrive in Australia are required to self-isolate for 14 days and follow the health advice of the Department of Health. Concerned students can contact the dedicated COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398.
  • Further guidance on self isolation is found here.
  • MRS has:

    • Implemented additional cleaning in all communal bathrooms, toilets and common areas.
    • Increased security in our residences in all halls on the Peninsula and Clayton campuses.
    • Extended our Residential Support Team online community engagement programs.
  • MRS will continue to operate for students wishing to remain in their Hall. Current internet access will continue to be offered and maintained, and students can continue to access the on-campus University Health and Counselling Services.
  • The MRS cafe on Clayton campus will remain open for lunch and dinner, and residents will be able to obtain takeaway meals. The Monash Merchant grocery store on Clayton campus will also remain open seven days per week.
  • We acknowledge and understand that during this period of growing uncertainty, some students may wish to return home to family and friends. As at Monday, 23 March 2020, should students wish to cancel their current residential agreement with MRS and move out of their Hall, they can do so without any financial penalty.

    • To support students who decide to make this decision, MRS will keep the room available for the student to return for one week at no charge from the date of departure, to allow for change of mind and to move back into halls. Please note that one week after departure, MRS will offer the room to other Monash students who may need accommodation.
    • Residents who depart will be given priority access to return to on-campus accommodation in 2020 when the situation changes.
    • An MRS departure form should be completed prior to your departure date. The MRS departure form can be found here.
    • Residents may be eligible for government rent assistance; details of which can be found here.
  • If you choose to remain in residence, you must adhere to the recommended social distancing requirements of 1.5 metres and if you are in a common room, you must not exceed the one person to 4sq metres requirement. To assist students with this, MRS communal spaces will have signs on the doors with appropriate limits per room.
  • Strictly no visitors are permitted in any MRS halls or accommodation. Current residents are only permitted to access their own hall.
  • Cooking is strictly prohibited in any room other than a function kitchen. There is no cooking in the residential village student bedrooms (Deakin, Howitt, Farrer, Richardson, Roberts, Normandby House or the South East Flats)
  • Residents are reminded to notify a member of their RSTO if they are not well, to enable us to provide appropriate support.
  • Contact Monash Residential Services for any accommodation admissions advice.
